From its early days, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has incorporated the idea of a materials database talking to a design, detailing and construction database. Using both BuildSite's and Tekla’s open application program interfaces (APIs), Tekla has integrated its BIM solution, Tekla Structures, with the BuildSite database.

The BuildSite-Tekla Structures integration connects Tekla's community of structural engineers, steel detailers, steel fabricators, concrete detailers, pre-cast manufacturers, and many leading ENR 400 contractors with a key information source. Tekla Structures users can associate BuildSite’s document database of admixes, curing compounds, form hardware, inserts, adhesives, and many other products with 3D elements in the design model. The integration with Tekla Structures accomplishes an important goal of building information modeling (BIM), a design model fully integrated with a materials database, and moves the industry further toward fully integrated project delivery (IPD).
