Sustainable Sites - Credit 7.1 : Heat Island Effect, Non-roof
This credit is designed to reduce the solar energy retention of non-roof hardscapes. To help achieve this credit, BuildSite Green Data includes the Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of non-roof paving materials. The credit can also be achieved through the use of open-grid paving systems.
Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) is a measure of a material’s ability to reflect solar heat, as shown by a small rise in temperature. SRI is calculated according to ASTM E 1980-01, using the material’s solar reflectance and thermal emittance values.
