Ned Trainor and Mark Anderson started BuildSite in late 1999 in order to provide contractors and suppliers with a practical, single-source of product and technical information, delivered online. Ned came to BuildSite from the construction products distribution business. Mark is an experienced software architect and developer.

Ned's inspiration for BuildSite occurred at a jobsite in 1996. In a trailer for a Gap corporate building south of San Francisco, the project engineer and superintendent were poring through a thick book of specifications while simultaneously scheduling concrete deliveries and assigning foremen.

This was one of many experiences that made it clear the industry needed a simple way to tie specifications to products, find products to solve jobsite problems, and simplify the submittal process. Mark provided the technical vision by translating an idea and a mock-up into an easy to use application that has grown in size and functionality since its launch at World of Concrete in 2001.
